Dog Nights of Winter?

Now, I've heard of 'dog days of summer' but I've never heard of 'dog nights of winter' or anything close to that. Yet the past two nights, my beloved fur kid has decided that from 11:00 PM on, it is play time and is displaying the need to go 'outside' repeatedly. I don't mean two or three times. NO, I mean like every half hour. She doesn't squat and pee or hunch up and drop her poo. She runs around smelling the ground and the bushes. When I call her she does return to me and comes back in the house only to repeat this behavior again and again.

I know, y'all think I'm crazy to allow this bizarre behavior, but if I don't let her out, she stands in the middle of the family room, stomping her front paws and barks at me creating so much noise that I am sure she will wake hubby up! And believe me when I say I learned a long time ago not to wake hubby up when he is working overtime. He's worse than a she bear protecting her cubs!

We have just finished playing this nightly game and I told her this has to stop. She gave me a strange look, turned and ran upstairs to find her sleeping spot(See above photo). Well, at least we're done with this game for tonight. At least I hope so!!

jd's rose ~ I don't know if it's a true stomping...she jumps up in the air with her front paws and then lands back on them, and she kind of prances (her name is Prancer) and dances. It's funny to watch!;)

oh your dog is so cute. Bert if he gets lonely, goes and finds one of my shoes or slipper and one of hubbies....and just puts it into bed with him....or if we have gone out he figures going on the couch is fair game....thank god it is leather and easier to clean. But they do become creatures of habits as well...Guess it's from hangin with us humans to long....

Cheers my dear friend

Your dog is SOOOO beautiful!!

And my German Shepard is doing this too!! She smells EVERYTHING!!! Yesterday she ripped her "doggie steak thingy that holds her chain" out of the ground and took off down the street. WTH is going on?!?!? LOL!!

Let that girl use the potty Martie! She's a great looking dog. No offense to her.

Maybe you got the heat turned up too high for her? Heck, I don't know, just throwing stuff out there

This is so strange! My German Shepherd has been doing the same thing the past few nights. She hasn't been going out more than normal, but at 10:30 she starts dropping gross tennis balls and slobbery chew toys in my lap. Then she runs in circles around the family room, drops low wagging her tail and starts hootin'. Maybe it's the moon? Hope your "fur kid" (I love that!) is a regular sleepy pup tonight!

She's so pretty.... :)

GSD's are known for having "neurotic" habits!!!!

It would be cool to see Martie and her fur kid on the dog whisperer. :) She's pretty.

My puppy is pretty much doing the same thing. Around eleven or so she starts barking/whining to go outside, she sniffs a bit pokes her nose at things etc.. She doesn't pee, poop nada! I call for her to come and then, she goes to her sleeping spot and then fifteen or so minutes later we repeat the same thing. What gives? Must be in the water.

smalltown rn ~ she use to do the same thing with the shoes/slipper when she was a pup....they sure are funny aren't they?

v ~ she's so strange sometimes; her mom was a purebred boxer and her dad was a sneaky neighborhood dog but the vet is convinced her dad was some kind of shepard.....australian, german or dutch!

slick ~ thanks for trying to figure it out.....we keep the house the same temp we always keep it and it's just been the last 2-3 nights....I'm inclined to think it has something to do with the weather or the moon !?

hobess ~ oh, if only these fur kids could talk and tell us what's going on, huh?

rebecca ~ I had no idea they were known for neurotic behavior...thanks for that tidbit!

the editor ~ that would be something.....I think being on the Dog Whisperer would be totally awesome!

chesney girl ~ yeah, I guess we know who rules the roost over here, huh?

riverrat ~ it does seem strange that so many of the dogs are acting the same way.....I wonder if they all sense something!?

The pup did it again last night and this morning! It's the strangest thing. It's raining here and in the mid to low forties. Cold, ugh I hate it! I'll take you up on that offer though, coffee and jammies, sounds good to me!

river rat ~ let me know what time you will arrive and I'll have a fire going and a fresh pot of coffee brewed just for you!!!

that is SO funny!!! i don't think i agree with you on the animals being able to talk thing - i have a hard enough time keeping up with my girls who talk non stop and create so many topics and adventures for momma! i don't think i could stand listening to another!!!!! ;)

I know what you mean. It is so easy for them to get the upper hand. My dog will do the same thing. She will kick her foot and hit something to make sounds just loud enough to drive me crazy. Another trick is to cry underneath her breath loud enough to keep me awake.

Hope you get some sleep tonight.

Hugs,
Connie
