Did you ever have to fill out a form where they ask for your occupation? I have on several different occasions. And all the years of being a stay at home mom only seemed to leave me the option of checking the multiple choice answer of 'housewife'. Yet that is not correct either. I wasn't married to my house! Then I remembered the story I once heard of a woman who claimed she was a 'Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations.'

Now, you might ask. just exactly what this field of employment is. Let me enlighten you.

It would consist of a continuing program of research (what mom doesn't)in the laboratory and in the field (normally I would say indoors and out). Where one is working for their Masters, (first the Lord and then the whole family). In my case, I already have five credits (three sons and two daughters). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities, (any mother care to disagree?) and I often work 14 hours a day, (24 is more like it). But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money.'

Motherhood!

What a glorious career! Especially when there's a title on the door. Does this make grandmothers 'Senior Research Associates in the field of Child Development and Human
Relations', and great grandmothers 'Executive Senior Research Associates?'

I think so!!! I also think it makes Aunts 'Associate Research Assistants.'

Ha...that's cute. Can't relate though since I've not ever had kids. Sounds taxing...I'll remain a dropout. LOL

Hope you are having a good weekend.

This is perfect!

...that being said, I've just realized I have TWO full-time jobs... accountant AND Research Associate!
No wonder I'm always SO tired!

We have said for many years that a housewife should be considered an occupation and part of the gross national product...I love that title it is so fitting....we undermine what it is that woman who stay at home really do and contribute to society as a whole....where would lunch programs, bake sales and fundraisers be without them...what about educator/tutor...apparently knowledgable in all aspect of education....what about health care...she is the health care provider in the home....yes we certainly under estimate their contribution to society...

Great post. A housewife wears many hats...Caretaker, cook, accountant, doctor on duty, chauffeur and teacher...Just to name a few!

Hope you are doing well.

Actually, when I fill out that line, I write Family Manager. When I'm pubbed, I'll add, Corporate Family Manager.

Covers it all I say.

Have yet to have someone ask me what that means. Hehehe!
